Is it possible to grow the jack pine indoors just by the normal lights from my room? (ie, no grow lamps or access to a window)

thanks

If you can do it, please let us all know.
Jack pine will require a cold resting period and I doubt strongly that your Jack pine can make it in a typical home without a cool rest.
Good luck.

what is this cold rest you speak of?

Can anyone give a total beginner some useful starting tips, as all i have done so far is germinate the seeds for a week (cold stratification) and planted them the other day.

Trees may be roughly divided into groups. One, tropicals and sub-tropicals that can grow off and on through the year. Two, are temperate trees that grow in areas that get cold or even freezing. These trees can not grow for long without going into a dormancy period that requires some chilling or even freezing.
If you are trying to grow trees indoors than you need to start with trees that are in the first group. You can find some information at http://bonsaihunk.8m.com/IndoorBonsai.html
To learn more about bonsai you need to buy a few beginners bonsai books, keep reading everything that is on the internet, and keep asking questions. It will take time but you will learn a lot.
