In Singapore several years ago I obtained a shrubby material Phyllanthus s.
I really can't find anything aobut it on thei nternet but there are many related species in Southeast asia.
Is anyone growing a Phyllanthus sp. of any sort?
So far my small cuttings are growing very well and should make lovely small bonsai.

I am growing one species of Phyllanthus, P. epiphyllanthus, a plant that is native here in Barbados in the West Indies. I do not know P. sinensis.
The Phyllanthus species that I have seen in books seem to vary tremendously. The one I have been trying grows in shallow soil pockets on our rocky seaside cliffs. It flowers on the edges of the leaves where seeds later form. What attracted me to this plant is the texture of the bark on the very mature bushes. They have to be very old to get any size of trunk suitable for Bonsai. The biggest bush I have seen here was about 3 feet tall.
I don't have a photo of mine to attach at this time as I am not impressed enough with my efforts so far. This species in my gargen has a severe problem with caterpilars although the ones in the wild don't seem to have a problem.
Good to see you here

Art,
If you can send post it here that would be terrific.
I need to see what it looks like and can you give any information on how you grow it?
Water, soil, sun etc.
I wil try to put up one of my Phyllanthus s.
May be difficult since I just tore up my knee skiing and getting to the greenhouse will be a problem until after surgery.

Further research has led me to believe that the plant I am working with is actually Phyllanthus myrtifolius.
I will attach a picture of a 3 year old plant. Just a beginning but the material is quite nice.
BTOnline will do an article on this material in the next few weeks.

Jerry,
In Indonesia we usually grow Phyllantus neruri that have small red flower. It is quite possible that your tree is also neruri.

I will send you one by e-mail.
Perhaps you can post your material.

Jerry,
nice tree, real potential there.
Do you have a close up of the foliage?

Leslie,
The leaf on this plant is very similar in size and shape to Kingsville Boxwood. The leaf texture though is much finer and not as thick.
Leaf size is 3/4 inch by 1/4 inch.
Picture of leaves attached.
