Hi!

I live in Reunion Island, a French overseas department in Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and Mauritius.

I'm new to bonsai. I'm an "old" carnivorous and succulent plants collector.

I'll soon buy my first tree, but I especially want to grow bonsai from seeds. I've recently sown seeds of baobab (adansonia digitata) and I'll sow other seeds soon.

I'd like to find seeds and also swap/exchange some with other people as I'll soon have many different kinds (especially tropical trees like delonix regia, jacaranda mimosifolia,...)

Hope to find swappers here + good advice for a beginner.

I hope to hear from you soon :)

Welcome aboard!

Tell your friends about this board as we do need to have more people to chat.

Growing bonsai from seed takes alot of patience. My advice would be to buy some trees so that you have something to keep you occupied while you are waitin on your seeds to become something bonsaiable.

What can you tell us about the Bonsai scene in Reunion? Are there many practicioners?

Once again,
Welcome

hi saint!

as i said, i'm going to buy 1 or several trees soon and at the same time i'm growing them from seeds.

i'm new to bonsai and i absolutely don't know anything about bonsai here in reunion. i know some gardenshops sell a few very common trees, but that's all. that's why i grow from trees too, because it's impossible to find rare trees here.

that's why i'm looking for swappers (of seeds mostly) worldwide and advice too :)

see you.

Hey do a search for bonsai clubs in your area. There is probably one around where you live. If you join a bonsai club you will be amazed at how quickly you learn.

What you may find useful is to collect trees t o make into bonsai. That will help you get a really interesting collection started.

We can get into that perhaps on another thread.

Hi Saint!

That's exactly what I try to do :) I'm looking at all the trees around me and I'm waiting for seeds to sow and also to swap with other people in order to get more and to make other people discover trees of reunion island (we have many endemics). would you be interested? other people?
